BPC021 - DEUTSCHellen allien, hochmotivierte und immer auf hundert prozent laufende djane und labelbetreiberin hat das geschafft, was auf ihrem langzeitplan ganz oben auf der liste steht. das erste eigene album erscheint.
etwas zeit hat es schon gedauert, galt es doch bpitch control am laufen zu halten. doch nun endlich wartet ellen allien mit ihrem debütalbum “stadtkind” auf. die namengebung des titels scheint naheliegend, fühlt sie sich doch selbst durch die fortlaufende und zugleich untrennbare konfrontation mit berlin als großstadt einerseits, und als kind dieser stadt im selben moment, innig verbunden. diese verknüpfung ist folglich auch in der urbanität ihrer musik spürbar. ellen spricht ihre eigene musikalische sprache, die sie in einem psychotisch-romantisch scheinenden elektronika-plot ansiedelt, mit zerhackten soundteppichen garniert und atmosphärischen lo-fi-attacken am boden hält.
das album faßt neben kompromißlosen clubstompern und verstört-verträumten spoken-word-electro, auch abstrakte downbeattitel zusammen. und dabei immer knietief aus der suppe des geschehens. die emotionale aussage der titel insgesamt, ähnelt dabei dem kondensstreifen einer concorde: aus luftiger höhe bis bleischwer ins technoide strobo wird gefetzt. der kurs wird dabei von ellens vocals gehalten, die zugleich – differenziert in intensität und sing- oder sprechweise – den konsens der weitgefaßten musikalischen spannbreite auf “stadtkind” halten, sodaß man nie den eindruck bekommt, gleich aus dem fenster zu fallen. auf dem titeltrack “stadtkind” serviert ellen die volle stimmliche breitseite, das gesprochene wort und die lyrics schaffen es unerbittlich die augen über die stadt mit dem schönsten aller fernsehtürme zu öffnen. trotz allem verliert sich ellen musikalisch auf “stadtkind” aber nie in anheimelnd lokalkolorierter Ödness. denn das, was da aus dem lautsprecher kommt, ist immer noch straight bpitch control. |

BPC021 - ENGLISHellen allien, highly motivated and always 100% going dj and label owner, has finally reached the long awaited goal of releasing her own album.
a time craving project, but finally ellen allien is now able to present her debut album “stadtkind” (german for child of the city). the choice of title seems obvious, as the inevitable confrontation with berlin as an urban area was always present in her childhood. this link is noticeable in the urban aspect of her music. she talks her own musical language within a psychotic, romantic and electronic plot. the chopped up sounds ornamented with athmospheric lo-fi attacks will keep you down and lift you up.
the album contains among straight club stompers and distraught spoken word electro, abstract down beat tracks too. kneedeep and always straight out the middle of struggling daily life. the emotional range resembles to the concord’s condensation trail: from light and airy heights to heavy as lead techno beats. the driving force is ellen’s vocal performance, which contains the whole musical spectrum of “stadtkind”. it is the differentiated intensity of singing. you will never feel like you have to fall out of the window. on the title track “stadtkind” ellen shows her vocal bandwidth: the spoken word and the lyrics keep opening your eyes for the city with the most beautiful tv-tower. in spite of all this, ellen never gets lost in local vastness with her music on “stadtkind”. the tough sound which boosts out of the speakers is still straight bpitch control. |
