BPC095 - DEUTSCHkiki, gebürtiger finne mit wahlheimat berlin, ist internationaler dj und seit drei jahren produzent für bpitch control. nach vier eigenen eps und einer zusammen mit silversurfer (bpc063 “wasp”) präsentiert er „run with me“, sein erstes album.
streichersätze versus störgeräusche, harte beats versus harmonische flächen, wir haben uns kiki als eine art dr. jekyll und mr. hide vorgestellt. nun kommt er hereinspaziert, blond, freundlich, aufgeräumt, und sagt: „ich bin optimistisch bis zur naivität.“augenblicklich rückt die idee einer gequälten seele in unerreichbare ferne. aber woher rührt dann die martialische finsternis von „this is the end of the world“, bei der die meisten gleich an sisters-of-
mercy-gothic denken? kiki kann alles erklären...
für sein erstes album will kiki seine prägenden einflüsse zusammenbringen. der besagte track ist nicht nur der anfang der platte, er steht auch für einen anfang: so hätte kiki damals gerne geklungen, als er mit seiner schülerband das musik machen begann. er hörte kiss und bewunderte die dunkle seite von david bowie. heute relativiert der weitere text den apokalyptischen titel: „... end of the world - as we know it.“ will sagen, die dinge ändern sich und kiki sieht dem mit gelassenheit und neugierde entgegen.
offenbar eine ganz natürliche haltung für ihn, denn diesen text singt er wie die anderen auf der platte recht spontan in seinen recorder. aufschreiben gilt nicht: schließlich hat kiki auch mal hiphop gemacht und dabei rappen und auflegen trainiert.
für das getragene-groovige „on the 140th day“ verwendet kiki sogar ein altes drumtape aus
dieser zeit. oft probiert, dann adoptiert zieht kiki vor zehn jahren von helsinki nach berlin und freut sich. denn hier hört er viel detroit (sowie die bunten klänge der neuen heimat). seine hooklines sind die verhallten echolotfrequenzen und mystischen morsezeichen der city of motors. er schätzt verspulte melodieschleier und schwebende dub-hi-hats ebenso wie filmusik reife violinenklänge. selten fehlen ein treibender bass und ein fordernder beat.
„run with me“ ist ein ruf richtung tanzfläche.
in kikis kopf steht ein bild über diesem kreativen misch-masch: wie er, mit all dieser musik im walkman, über den strand von helsinki nach hause geht, während wind und wetter an ihm zausen. vielleicht rühren daher die melanscholischen anklänge in der zuversichtlichen grundstimmung. bestimmt jedoch eint die übergreifende vision die vielfältigen inspirationen, sie ist kikis „big picture“. |

BPC095 - ENGLISHkiki, a native fin and immigrated berliner, is an international dj. he has been producing music for bpitch control since the last three years. he is presenting his first album "run with me" following five ep's.
it's full of strings vs. static sound, hard beats vs. harmonic aesthetic. we imagine it as if kiki were some sort of dr. jekyll and mr.hide. now he's making a move with his blonde hair, friendly smile, and clean-cut look to say: "i am optimistic to the point of naivite." currently the idea of a suffering soul is being squashed. but where then is this martial darkness coming from with lines like "this is the end of the world?" most people would perhaps think of sisters of mercy style gothic. kiki can explain it all...
he is thus pulling together his main influences for this first album. the track mentioned before is not only first on the album, but it also stands for a beginning. this is the sound kiki had desired in the days of his school band. he listened to kiss and loved the darker side of david bowie. today, the following text may help to dispel the apocalyptic title: "...end of the world as we know it."this is to say that things change and kiki regards this with ease and curiosity.
it seems to be quite the natural position for him since he sings this line, like all the others, rather spontaneously into his recorder. writing just doesn't do it: kiki is well-schooled in the realm of hip hop, rapping, and djing. he even utilizes an old drum-tape from the old days for a groovy track "on the 140th day." after many attempts, kiki finally moved to berlin some ten years ago only to find happiness. here he heard a lot of detroit and local berlin sounds.
his hook lines come from spacious echo frequencies and from mystical morse code that the city of motors is known for. he appreciates off-kilter melodies and floating dub hi-hats just as much as violin strings made for film music. the throbbing beat and driving bass rarely go away.
"run with me" is a call in the direction of the dance floor. there is a picture in kiki's head in relation to this creative mix: the way wind and weather breeze by him strolling with his walkman along the beach in helsinki. perhaps this is why the underlying melancholic sound pervade the basic vibe. it's for sure, however, that the over-arching vision coming from these diverse sources of inspiration unite under the title: kiki's "big picture." |
