SMASH TV'S BIOGRAPHYbiography
„now more than ever“ seems to be the motto of holger zilske aka smash tv. after the every day life of an employee brought his companien michael schmidt to his knees regarding his musical activities and he therefore dropped out of smash tv, music came to the fore more and more for holger. since then it’s him alone who stands for smash tv.
the list of his gigs is long: alicante, cork, london, rotterdam, hamburg, münchen, zürich, ljubljana, paris, lyon, brüssel, berlin, madrid, malta, new york, san francisco, seattle, portland, texas, detroit, pittsburgh, chicago, rio de janeiro, sao paulo, basel, wismar, valencia, stuttgart, barcelona, dresden, leipzig, kassel, frankfurt, wien, glasgow, nürnberg, birmingham, minneapolis, bern und straßburg, where he rocked the house until dawn!
no breaks for him – if he is not playing he is in his studio working on new tracks. the result is – besides his albums „electrified“ and „bits for breakfast“ as well as several ep’s and remixes his releases together with ellen allien, like „stadtkind“, „berlinette“ und „thrills“.
more than 80 songs are produced already and can be found on the turntables all around the world.
and of course there will be more in 2006. his first release of this year if „air/earth“, a 12“. it will be followed by a single that’s already finished. so get ready ... 2006 belongs to him ... don’t change the channel!
bio in short:
1989
holger zilskie gives up his piano lessons and starts to get into synths, sequenzers and drum machines.
1990-95
builds his first studio together with michael schmidt
1995
first releases under different names, music for webpages and commercials. works with other artists and gets into sound design. releases on zulu records.
1999
smash tv meets ellen allien. the results: „last kiss 99“ and „data romance“.
2001
first smash tv release on bpitch control – „electronic boy“ (bpc020). followed by a remix for toktok’s „missy queen gonna die“ and one for sylvie marks
erste smash tv vö erscheint bei bpitch control mit dem titel “baby take me a little bit higher“ (bpc037). mindlab release on salo.
„now“ is released. smash tv’s first gig im wmf. release of ellen allien’s „stadtkind“ (bpc021). holger works on several remix projects with ellen (malaria, golden boy & miss kittin, peter licht)
2002
the first album release – „electrified“ in february 2002 on bpitch control. the track „nobody“ is used as a single with remixes by barbara morgenstern, modeselektor und grom. the video trashes and flashes! another collaboration with ellen allien - „erdbeermund“ (bpc041). they then work on ellen’s second album „berlinette“ and go on tour together. holger plays at tresor, polar tv, wmf, musik und maschine, panorama bar, ultraschall (münchen), casino, polar tv, bartofar (paris), primavera sound (barcelona), melt tour, neue heimat (stuttgart), hotel reiss (kassel), velvet (leipzig)
2003
ellen’s album „berlinette“ (bpc065) is finished and releast with the maxis „trashscape“ and „alles sehen“. smash tv remixes goldenboy and miss kittin’s „autopilot“. holger finishes his second album. gigs at tresor, maria, watergate,, centre pompidou (paris), festival music-allemand (paris), electronica en abril (madrid),rgb melkweg (amsterdam).
release of “hi-jacked” (bpc79) in december.
michael schmidt leaves smash tv.
2004
may: release of his second album “bits for breakfast” (bpc087). guest artist is raz ohara for “queen of men”. this becomes the maxi (bpc091) with remixes by kiki, dave tarrida and smash tv.
touring from may to august with the highlight being the benicassim festival in spain (bpitch control label showcase). at the end of the year, holger is back in the studio with ellen allien to work on her third album „thrills“.
2005
release of ellen allien’s “thrills” (bpc106) with the following maxis ”magma“, „your body is my body, “down“.
“camping” tour with other bpitch control artists in february and march.
march: release of smash tv’s new single “techtechtalk” followed by a usa-tour. holger plays and plays and ....
2006
another smash tv release: „air/earth (bpc122). release of raz ohara’s fireball remix (2004) as well as another ep in june - "yellow asteroids" (bpc130).
